Wolfmother has been named the headlining act for this year’s JD Set show just weeks after cancelling their European tour.

The Aussie band were due to tour Europe this month and throughout July however they have pulled the plug due to illness.

“Wolfmother regretfully been forced to cancel their European tour due to an undisclosed health issue,” a statement from the band said.

“The band does not take these decisions lightly and would like to apologise first and foremost to the fans for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Unconfirmed reports claim the band were forced to cancel the tour as Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale is not well enough to travel.

A statement from JD Set organisers said the Aussie band will top the bill for the 2010 JD Set band competition next month.

“Jack Daniel’s is pleased to announce Australian rock act, and Grammy Award winning band, Wolfmother as their first 2010 headliner,” the statement said.

Organisers also released the names of the six bands vying for the chance to perform with Wolfmother.

The bands are Kids At Risk (Sydney); New Navy (Sydney); Here Come The Birds (Newcastle); The Revolvers (Perth); Young Revelry (Perth); and The Smoke (Melbourne).

Voting for the first round will kick off tomorrow (Monday, 21 June) and will conclude on the Sunday, 4 July.

The act with the highest votes will share the stage with Wolfmother.
