Silverchair will head in a new direction on their upcoming studio album, the band’s bass player has said.

Chris Joannou said the trio have been in lock down over the past few months rehearsing and demoing their new album.

“This will be our sixth studio album and we like to refer to it as just that, “Album #6″, thankfully that’s very much just a working title,” Joannou said.

“While our album is still in it’s early stages, the demos are coming together well. We are really excited with the sounds emerging from the studio and everyday is a new surprise.

“As you may have come to expect from us – the album is moving in a very different direction from anything we’ve recorded previously.

“The three of us are all really pumped to be back in the studio again making new music together.”

Silverchair is back on the tour circuit this week, headlining shows as part of the ‘Groovin the Moo’ festival.

“We would like to confirm here and now will be unveiling two new songs as part of our set. The new songs are called ‘16’ and ‘Machina Collecta,” he said.
