30 bands in 30 days: day one

Posted on 18 October 2009 by Kate Kachor

Tonight marks the start of the 30 day challenge to watch and review 30 support bands in 30 days.

While it was tough coming up with the first band to see, the decision has been made.

I’m going to be catching the band, Lost in the Woods.

The Sydney band class themselves as being a bit of a mix between rock, psychedelic and country.

According to their website: “Lost in the Woods began with a computer, a guitar and a vintage organ. Brian Yatman recorded 14 songs and released them as “Down With the Sun” in 2006.

“Since then, the line-up has expanded to include Greg Clark on drums, and Mhark Cohen on bass.”

The band are playing tonight at Sydney venue, The Red Rattler.

I just re-checked the venue website and it suggests you get to the venue by public transport, or even by push bike.

I’ll have to double check the weather forecast and build up for a night of possible helmet hair though it could be the way to go.

On another note, thank you to everyone who emailed their support for this 30 day challenge.

Just a reminder what the criteria for the challenge is:

The challenge:
To watch and review 30 support bands in 30 days and document the time.

The criteria:
- only support acts are to be reviewed
- one band can not be reviewed twice
- photos of band and wrist stamp must be documented as proof
- reviews must be posted the day after the show
- if illness or an emergency stands in the way of seeing a band, an extra day must be added at the end of the 30 days

Want us to review your gig?
Now, the biggest challenge will no doubt be to try and find 30 bands to review over 30 nights.

So, if you’re in a band, or are a promoter, or band PR agent or are just generally a bit of a gig monster and know of a band playing a gig in Sydney from 18 October post a comment below.

Also, if you want to add criteria to this challenge, also either post a comment below or shoot us an email.

Cheers,
Kate
