More than 200 people were caught with drugs at last weekend’s Splendour in the Grass music festival.

About 35,000 people attended the two-day event at Byron Bay’s Belongil Fields.

Police using drug detection dogs found 209 in possession of illegal substances, a statement from Tweed/Byron Local area Command and the Operational Support Group said.

As a result, officers issued 120 court attendance notices for drug offences and 89 cannabis cautions.

Officers charged a 30-year-old Lismore man with supplying a prohibited drug after he allegedly had 80 ecstasy pills in his possession.

There were a number of arrests for alcohol-related and street offences.

Only 17,500 tickets are sold for Splendour in the Grass – not 35,000. Each event ticket sold is for both days i.e. Saturday and Sunday, there are no single day tickets.
