Moby has stripped back the production on his new album, deciding to ditch digital equipment in favour of analog.
The US artist will release his new album, Wait For Me, later this month.
Moby recorded the album in his home studio.
Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Throbbing Gristle, M83) came on board to help mix the record.
The first single off the album will be Pale Horses.
“I wanted the vocals on this song to sound old and almost conversational,” Moby said.
“On ‘Pale Horses’ my friend Amelia is singing; she’s holding a $20 microphone, no headphones, just singing it with me holding the lyrics in front of her pointing to the words. She didn’t know the song before she sang it, so her performance has a vulnerable and almost naïve quality.
“After recording her vocals I thought they still sounded too polished, so I put her vocals on an old 1/8” tape machine and re-recorded them back into the song. I wanted them to sound as if they were recorded 50 years ago instead of in 2008.”
Wait For Me will be released on Moby’s own label, Little Idiot Records on June 22.
