Tame Impala has set the pace for this year’s West Australian Music Industry (WAMi) Awards, securing 10 nominations.

The Perth band has scored nominations in almost all categories, including the Most Popular Act, Favourite Newcomer and Most Promising New Act categories.

Birds of Tokyo and Sugar Army both racked up five nominations, with Birds of Tokyo once again nominated in the Most Popular Album category.

The Painkillers picked up their first nomination for their album Love Cancer, Abbe May and the Rockin’ Pneumonia were nominated for Howl and Moan, ex-pats Snowman for their album The Horse, The Rat and The Swan, and last year’s winners Birds of Tokyo, for their sophomore album Universes.

Drapht has also scored his first WAMi Award nomination since 2007 in the Most Popular Single/EP category for the single Jimmy Recard.

Other nominees include previous WAMi Award winners End of Fashion for their single Fussy, Felicity Groom for Treasures and Tame Impala for their Self Titled EP

Voting for the public voted WAMi Awards is open to anyone in the world. The voting is open now at www.perthnow.com.au – voting closes at 5pm AWST Thursday 30 April.

The awards will be hosted by Tex Perkins (Australian rock and roll icon), and will include live performances by the Kill Devil Hills, indigenous act Djiva, Next Big Thing winners Project Mayhem and more to be announced.

The WAMi Award winners will be announced at the WAMi Awards Night at Metro City in Perth on Thursday 7 May.
