The Aussie singer has released the single, Yoko Ono, as a free single.
The track, Yoko Ono, has been lifted from Lee’s new album, Rebirth of Venus, which is due for release on 7 February, 2009.
Commenting on the track, Lee said: “I’ve always loved Yoko Ono, and never understood why she got a bad rap.
“There seems to be an implicit racism and misogyny in the whole “Yoko broke up The Beatles” argument. I stayed with Sean Lennon for a while when I first moved to NY in the late 90s, and I remember him laying me some of his mum’s records and opening my eyes to the under-appreciated beauty of those recordings.
“If you listen to Yoko’s records and look at her art (my favourite is her book “Grapefruit”) you’ll realise she is one of the few artists truly asking for us to expand our consciousness and manifest a better, more peaceful world to live in. I’m not sure why this scares people so much. Whatever the reason, I think Yoko has wisdom we need.”
